Paladin Leveling – Choosing The Race And Heading Out To Your First Town
Paladin leveling isn’t as easy as pie as leveling guides would like you to believe. It is a very complex class that requires a lot of thinking for you to be able to get every drop of efficiency from your character. If you’re gearing it to be the best in WoW, that is. If you’re just a casual player, Paladins still make for a good character.
Choosing your race is perhaps the first challenge you’ll face in Paladin leveling. You may choose to maximize the abilities of your character so you can make the ultimate killing machine out of it. However, if you’re not after efficiency, race really doesn’t matter that much. That said, it would still be nice to have one that’ll look good even though you’ll only see its mug (backside) until the end of the game.

Paladins are originally an Alliance-only class. However even in the Alliance, the Humans and Dwarves are the only available choices. With the introduction of the Burning Crusade, the Paladins were opened to the Horde class Blood Elves and the Alliance class, the Draenei.
Humans are quite probably the best race for Paladins. Humans get to have 10% on Reputation, Passive Strength, Spirit, Mace and Sword Specialization, and a few trinket slots that could come in handy in PvP mode.
Dwarves are, well, an excellent choice look-wise. Other than their looks though, they get Cold Resist, Stoneform, a bonus on Find Treasure and Guns, although guns are pretty much useless for Paladins since they are incapable of handling one.
The Draenei as a class is a much better choice than Dwarves when looking at their efficiency as fighters. They get the Gift of Naaru which is basically a HoT) spell that costs absolutely nothing to cast, a bonus on Jewelcrafting, a bonus on 1% hit, and a bit of Shadow Resistance. If you are looking to go deep into the Retribution tree, the extra heal could come in handy. All Draenei Paladins could benefit from the extra 1% hit.
If you’re playing the Paladin the Horde way, you don’t have a choice but to be a Blood Elf. Fortunately, Blood Elves make for excellent Paladins. The Bloods Elves have a bit of advantage over Draenei because of their Arcane Torrent plus they also come with decent boost on mana drain, Enchanting, and Magic Resistance. Over all, the Blood Elves aren’t a bad choice…not bad at all.
Once you have chosen the race of your Paladin, you will have to deal with the first few levels of the game. Nothing much to be said here, except that you should finish all your quests and leave nothing behind. Not a newbie to WoW? Well, that rule still applies. That’s the best strategy you could follow PLUS you can find precious gold and gears in doing so.
You’ll spend your first five levels in your starting town. Learn as much and gather as much as you can in your first town before you head out to your second town. In your next town would be the new trainer who would pretty do the same thing as your first. Do the same thing here – learn all the spells and abilities you can AND learn to skill your weapon. That should only take a few minutes to a couple of hours so don’t procrastinate and do it.
